Thoughts, anyone?

They seem awfully cheap for the alleged results, which is a rare combination…

Sellout!

October 30, 2008

I caved. I got one. New phone. Same number.

And now I’ve got Reel Big Fish in my head: “Sell out! With me, oh yeah! Sell out! With me all right!”

Thirty Minutes

October 29, 2008

Wow, that’s quite a lot of time. Lot of opportunities to blow your giant lead in thirty minutes. Please, god, don’t screw it up, dude!

In other news, the New York Times reports this gem: “The McCain campaign has seized on the advertisement as excessive, with Mr. McCain pointing to reports that Mr. Obama’s infomercial would bump back the World Series on Fox by 15 minutes. ‘No one will delay the World Series with an infomercial when I’m president,’ he said, in Hershey, Pa.” Ha!

Modest Mouse Fixx

October 28, 2008

So I managed to get out of the office before 4:30 today, which was my initial goal when I started working there (I’ve hit it only thrice, I think), and, lo and behold, I end up waiting forty minutes on a red line train. WTF, mate?

Needless to say, I was pretty bummed about that. Throw some stressful obligations on top of that I want to take care of before getting to bed at a reasonable hour, and you get grumpyseth. But part of growing up is knowing what you need to do in these situations…

A little amateur music therapy often calms me back down (especially when I’m wound up about things that are ultimately unimportant). A particularly effective bit of music therapy is rediscovering old favorites. For me, everything came together in the end tonight as soon as I heard “Heart Cooks Brain” by Modest Mouse.

The Lonesome Crowded West definitely deserves a spot on the music tab of this site. Quite simply, it is, along with All Hail West Texas (The Mountain Goats), the sincerest album I own. Put that together with a trip to my new favorite neighborhood coffee place, Fixx Coffee Bar, and you’ve got rejuvenatedseth. Now go listen to “Heart Cooks Brain”!

Newest Egomaniacal Brainiac

October is testing time for me, I suppose, as, besides the GRE, I also took the Mensa test the weekend before last. Imagine my surprise when I get a response letter so soon inviting me to join the organization!

Something I didn’t know (glad the following wasn’t on the exam!) was that mensa has a triple meaning in Latin suggesting mind, table, and month, and who doesn’t love a quality Stammtisch but yours truly? I better not say something dumb!
