Best Songs of 2008

December 23, 2008

All right. I won’t go as crazy as my records post, but I do also have a Top 5 Songs of the Year…and links this time! The best part is—even though I’m typically not a music video fan—two of these tracks have excellent videos. “Sax Rohmer #1″ is spectacular and “Dancing Choose” is pretty wild as well. Cold War Kids’ isn’t bad either, but, FYI, the other two links are just to the audio; there are no videos for the other two that I know of. Here we go:

5. “Something Is Not Right With Me” – Cold War Kids
4. “Sax Rohmer #1″ – The Mountain Goats
3. “We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed” – Los Campesinos!
2. “Good Lies” – The Notwist
1. “Dancing Choose” – TV on the Radio

To the actual songs: “Dancing Choose” isn’t the deepest track in the world, but, straight up, it’s just a hit and can’t be beat. “Good Lies” has been on repeat in my head for a while now so it slots in at #2, whereas Los Campesinos! struck a chord with me for the last podium spot. The Mountain Goats’ music video probably helped them a lot in at fourth (seriously, the video is rad, especially for wordnerds like me! Watch it!). Finally, Nathan Willet throwing his voice all over the place made “Something Is Not Right With Me” an instant favorite when I first heard Loyalty to Loyalty.

Check ‘em out and enjoy!
