It’s got to be a bit of a disappointment for Hollywood to be plugging a movie to no end and then only get mediocre reviews, but it’s often the case. Now the reviews for Public Enemies are not necessarily bad, but I, like most others, wasn’t impressed…even if I had a good time watching the movie.
I think the main problem is it’s just cops v. robbers the whole time. No characters are truly conflicted at any moment. The storyline is set. There’s no real turn to speak of. It’s just Dillinger breaking out of jail, robbing banks, being pursued by wiretaps and betrayed by friends, and ultimately ending the way it really did end.
Not a bad movie by any means, but it also offered little besides a couple hours of summer entertainment. Yep.
